Insurance and Claims Assistant - Commodities, London
Our client is a leading Commodity focussed company based in central London. They seek an additional hire for the small, outgoing and very friendly team.
Job Summary
The candidate will be responsible for a variety of insurance and claim processes and documentation. Handling all activities from the initial claim notification to finalisation. Ensuring that the claims are dealt with cost effectively and to the highest standards. Liaising with recover agents, brokers, as well as third parties.
The candidate should have excellent communication skills, as well as the ability to perform successfully and efficiently under pressure. The role also requires someone that can consistently produce accurate work in a timely fashion, has excellent attention to detail and the ability to resolve problems independently.
Role Responsibilities
* Handling the claims process from initial notification to finalisation.
* Accurately assess and evaluate both simple and complex claims: policy liability, reserve calculations and final settlement values.
* Ensuring all claims are handled efficiently.
* Maintaining and developing both own technical knowledge and expertise of the Cargo Marine (CM) policy.
* Referring claim issues that can’t be resolved to the appropriate desk head and/or Operations Manager.
* Supporting and assisting the CM policy initiatives and projects as directed by the Operations Manager.
* Maintaining the in-house claims register and keeping data fully up to date for reporting to management.
* Managing and distributing the CM policy updates to the group.
* Responsible for the monthly warehouse inventory declarations to the broker, including assisting individual traffic team members to collate monthly inventory figures for submission.
* Validating monthly accounts sales turnover calculations, before submitting to the broker
Role Requirements
* Ideally, the candidate will have some previous claims experience and have worked with ports and warehouse claims or other transit related claims.
* Excellent communication skills (both verbally and in writing) with the ability to communicate internally and externally.
* High level of attention to detail.
* Must possess excellent IT skills, particularly MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and the ability to learn internal systems
* Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
* Strong organisational skills and must be able to work under pressure.

Knowledge & Skills:
* 3-5 years experience in data science/machine learning in a mix of academic research and practical application. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in reinforcement learning.
* Advanced degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Economics, or related quantitative field
* At least one core programming expertise, such as Python (iPython, NumPy, SciPy, Pandas) or R
* Basic knowledge of relational and non-relational data stores like Postgres, MySQL, MongoDB, etc.
* Experience with data mining, statistics & visualization
* Strong statistical knowledge and intuition, especially for applying analysis to real data
* Interest in energy markets
* Excellent personal organization and ability to prioritize and carry out multiple tasks
* Comfortable to work independently
* Must work effectively & collaboratively in a dynamic development environment
Technologies they like:
* Advanced statistics & statistical programming language like Python, R, and MATLAB
* Python and specifically Numpy, SciPy & Pandas, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, Theano
