An established US listed Digital Media & Publishing business is seeking to appoint a Group Project Accountant. This is a key role in a growing and highly acquisitive business, with 3 acquisitions last year and more to follow. The role is based in the central London office, a 5 minute walk from Holborn Tube Station, where you will sit alongside the CFO. This is a varied and dynamic high-profile role with a wide remit. Following on from the familiarisation with the operations and legal structure of the group the role will progress towards being a Senior Financial Analyst, which in turn has been a stepping stone in the past to Regional Finance Director for strong candidates. The Project Accountant role would suit a recently qualified ACA/ACCA with US GAAP and SOX knowledge through company/client experience and good technical financial understanding, with strong Excels skills to build models. Responsibilites: * Review and updating of the group’s Sarbanes Oxley compliance database; * Assisting the Group Financial Accountant with legal entity consolidation work; * Updating the group’s financial procedures manual in compliance with US GAAP; * Implementation of the new accounting standard for leases; * Research into US GAAP/UK GAAP/IFRS areas relating to the group’s activities; * Financial Modelling for potential acquisitions and subsequent due diligence; * Financial accounting integration work for any newly acquired businesses; * Ad hoc analysis and research projects for the Group Finance Director; * Periodic control reviews and investigations at operating businesses (typically no more than 2 a year). Purpose of the role Supporting the UK Global Controller and the local Head of Tax for direct and indirect tax planning, administration and compliance activities for all Global HQ companies of the group within the UK. Responsible for increasing the efficiency and internal control environment in the direct and indirect tax area in UK. Supporting local accounting activities for the UK based group holding companies. Accountabilities * Work in a quickly changing environment, i.e. legislative changes and communication to/requirements from the tax authorities * Constantly balancing the search for new improved ways of working together with the sustained implementation of agreed ways of working * Align different departments (finance, legal, supply, logistics, procurement and sales) to streamline the corporate income tax and VAT processes within the company * Ensure full flexibility within the team to meet existing and future business needs. * Ensure full compliance of administration and reporting of direct & indirect taxes (income tax, VAT, etc.) and that all tax payments are submitted within the prescribed timeframe * Monitor changes in the tax legislation related to corporate income tax and VAT that could have an impact on the UK group companies. Manage the introduction of these changes throughout the business * Support tax planning and optimization projects in order to increase efficiency in direct and indirect taxes in the UK group companies. * Act as contact person for tax impact assessment of business decisions * Monitor compliance against global tax risk management policies * Coordinate, facilitate and host internal and external tax reviews and audits Requirements * University degree in Economics, Business, Accounting, Tax or related field desirable * ACCA/ACA or CTA qualified * Strong Tax Compliance experience * Strong knowledge of Direct / Indirect
