Logos on a CV?

This is an interesting one. It seems that candidates are utilising their pc skills when it comes to producing their CV by including their employers (past and present) company logos.

There are 2 issues here. Appearance and Legal.

Appearance:- I personally think that these additions can produce a very professional looking document providing that they kept quite small and are a sharp image. However, some people may argue that these logos may distract the viewer from what really matters, which is your personal information, experiences and qualifications etc. Being a former Graphic Designer, I like them. In a previous JobBlog I covered the issue of making your CV stand out from the crowd. I believe that this can do just that professionally and without distraction. Picture power has been proven to be more effective in communication that both the written word and the spoken word!

Legal:- Whilst I don't think that a very large 'blue chip' Plc would take the time and effort to take legal action over anybody using their logo, I think it only fair to point out that the logo is the intellectual property of the company and ANY use without their express permissions is in fact illegal!
Summary

I still believe that a well laid out, simple design, simple easy to read font without any gory colours will be the cv of choice for most recruiters and employers. If you want to add your previous employers logo then I would say go for it.

Happy hunting
